Hello! I have been struggling a lot with being snappy at my family and just generally dad with no motivation to do anything at all. One of the things besides hanging out with people that had seemed to help most is gratitude. I was reading Anne of Green Gables this morning, and Anne's sunny disposition and full enjoyment of nature and all the beauty in it, as well as her enjoyment of tragic and romantic things, really lifted my spirits. I think that looking for the good around us and acknowledging it and appreciating it is so very helpful.
Sometimes I want to be grouchy though, and those times are when I'm especially glad for my family and friends that reach out to keep me engaged in life instead of disconnected behind my phone.
@Laura I love this post! When I was in high school, I went through a dark season when I felt like I didn't have much to look forward to. A friend recommended that I write down 5 things I was grateful everyday. I took on the challenge and some days it was hard to find things to write down. I dug deep and did it anyway and I found that I there were always things to be grateful for. The activity really helped me to get through that dark time. And I sometimes go back and read that journal to remember where I was at at that time and what brought me through.
I also came across this article about the health benefits of gratitude. I thought I'd share it here.
whenever I get this way, I find it good to just sit down and reflect; maybe think about much fun or interesting life has been so far, and much it will be in the future
As a lot of people have been saying, this is a great reminder! It is so amazing how easy it is to change your attitude and brighten your day! ❤️
What a great post! I struggle with falling asleep every night. You have reminded me to use this time to think about things that I am grateful for. Thank you!
Laura - I love this post. Anne of Green Gables was my favorite book when I was a kid. You are so right! Gratitude is powerful and life changing. Thanks for the reminder.
That is very true about using friends and family as an outlet for when you're feeling down. @Rilee posted something, I think it's her "Don't Forget to Lean on Those Around You" post, about that. She was basically saying, find those people in your life who you can go to when you're really struggling and need some support. Thanks for sharing some advice!
@Laura One thing I like doing is writing down five things I'm thankful for every day, and going for walks and thinking of things I'm thankful for. It really helped me become more grateful for what I've been given, and changed my attitude a bit (I've definitely been snappy to my family some days too).
