I am grateful I didn't get that job I was so desperately hoping to get; I learned much more from the rejection than I would have from the work experience.
I am grateful for the view from my window, the fresh coat of snow outside, and the migratory ducks that land in Colorado in the winter (maybe even the geese).
I am grateful to have lots of homework this weekend because I am lucky to have the opportunity to further my education in college.
I am grateful to have built so many new relationships with friends who build me up in their special ways everyday. And I am thankful to have a sister to talk to when no one else would understand.
I am grateful for the hum of the refrigerator and the water fountain down the hall and the quiet presence of my roommate as she works on her homework.
I am grateful for my parents, to whom I owe my life innumerable times over.
I am grateful for the silly ringtone my uncle set for himself on my phone and the fact that I hear it at least once a week.
I am grateful for my faith in God, which has carried me through the most difficult and the most joyful moments of my life.
I am grateful to my nutritionist, whose wisdom and compassion saved me when I developed an eating disorder four years ago.
I am grateful for organic chemistry (so far at least).
I am grateful for two bamboo needles, some yarn, and the grandma who taught my five-year-old hands how to use them.
I am grateful for a pot of tea and frozen chocolate chip cookies.
And I am grateful that the good moments in life always outnumber the bad and that we are never given anything more than we can handle.
And thank you, Caitlyn, for developing this site.
I love this post. Wonderful read. God Bless.
Beautiful... gratitude is life giving and healing. Thank you for reminding us all.
What a simple yet, beautiful commentary on what it means to be thankful. Thanks for sharing!
I am grateful for you, Kari. What a beautifully written piece! What maturity and insight you've shown in your gratitude of loss, recovery, family and the tiniest things in life. What a big heart you have!
Thank you for such a positive story. There is so much in life to be grateful for and sometimes it is so hard to see the good in life when there is so much bad. Thank you for helping people look past the bad and be grateful for what they have, it really makes you feel lucky looking at all you have. I love the quote "Its the small things in life that matter."
Kari, your words are sunlight to my soul. And I say that after a week of gloomy, snowy weather. Thank you for making me feel alive again! You have reminded me that there is always something to be thankful for, and usually there are many things to be thankful for. Your words are both wise and beautiful, as love and gratitude are the two most powerful gifts we can give to the world--and to ourselves. You are an inspiration! Don't ever stop writing!!
Thanks Kari! That's so nice of you! You're welcome! I love how positive your story is by just saying what you are thankful for. There are lots of people and kids out there who don't get some of the nice things that we have, like a washing machine, heaters, even a house. Some kids can't even go to college. We all need to be grateful for the stuff we already have instead of being sad about the stuff we don't have. Thanks for sharing!
