These are some crazy times we're going through. From the crazy blizzard I'm experiencing right now, to the empty shelves at the grocery stores, things are absolutely nuts. It can be super difficult to get your mind off of things, as well as keep yourself occupied. So here are some fun things you can do to help keep yourself occupied and have fun during these hard times!
Electronic-free:
- Write in a journal! This could be about literally anything.
- Go for a walk w/o your phone. It can be so relaxing.
- Go for a bike ride. Its a good workout for your quads.
- Read a book! It can be hard without the library, but I'm sure you have some lying around, begging to be read by someone.
- Redecorate your room! I plan on adding some personal pictures to one of my walls.
- (Not as fun but) Clean your room! You will feel so much better afterwards.
- Try on all the clothes in your closet. You could find so many new combinations you never thought of.
- Do makeup! Try out a new look with bold colors :)
- Exercise or stretch your muscles. Your body was made for a purpose, so get off the couch and start moving! Movement is medicine.
With electronics:
- Exercise!! People always say they want to get in shape, now's the time! If you don't know what to do, @/blogilates is posting a 14 day quarantine workout plan that I've been doing on instagram. It's super helpful and super fun! Just turn on some jams and get crunching!
- I personally love doing yoga and stretches because it's sooo relaxing and really helps me understand my body. I definitely recommend. If you're not sure what to follow or do, I recommend Alivia D'Andrea on YouTube.
- Dance! It doesn't matter if you're good at it or not! Just turn on some bops and jam!
- Watch a new TV show! I recommend Stranger Things, Glee, I Am Not Okay With This, and the Politician. (All can be found on Netflix)
- Listen to some new music. Some of my favorite songs are: Brother - The Aubreys, Sweet Talk - Saint Motel, Young Dumb & Broke - Khalid, When I Grow Up - NF, and Supalonely - BENEE. I hope I got a little bit of every genre there :)
Finally, just do whatever your heart desires. We're all in this together (to quote HSM) and if we come together to share ideas and communicate, this won't seem as painful. For those who need hope, here's a quote by Mister Rogers. “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."' I think this is something he would remind us if he was alive right now :) Stay safe friends!
Another idea is to write a story: look on Pintrest for some story prompts and pick one to start! Or, you could take an interesting photo and use that as inspiration.
I like the list of ideas! They are all really helpful ideas and somethings to do while we are all stuck mostly inside!
These are great ideas! Thanks for sharing them Kris. I cleaned out my closet today and found things I forgot that I had :-)
Awesome list of ideas! Also, I love the Mister Rodgers quote!
Here in Colorado we have Little Free Libraries. They are free book exchanges set up all over the city. They are usually in parks or other public places, but some people have even placed them in their front yard. It's an "honor system" program so you just drop off a book and pick-up a new one. You might Google and see if there is one in your area if your library is closed.
Also, if you're like me and miss your sports there is a simulated sports site called WhatifSports.com where you can build you own "dream team" and play against other users in computer simulated games. It's not as great as the real thing, but if you're a stats nerd and want to try to build the greatest team of all time, it will become addicting.
Thank you @Kris for sharing this. This is such a positive way to look at the situation we are all stuck in right now and I think all of us need to hear this. There ARE ways to make being under quarantine fun.
Oh also! I forgot to mention but if you want to please comment some ideas you have for others! :) Happy sharing and stay home and safe friends!
Also, even though libraries are closed, most will allow to you check out ebooks and videos online.
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." I wish Mr. Rogers was alive today. 😥
